In a recent interview, Kojima said that the PS2 allowed for more detailed definition of bodyparts, and more specifically, the fingers of the hand. Where 32- and 64-Bit game characters were stuck with nothing but mitts for hands, 128-bit characters like Snake can now have individual digits to use throughout the game. This brings about new problems though, as seemingly simple tasks like opening doors need to be painstakingly programmed so as not to diminish the realism.
