At this year's TGS (Tokyo Game Show) and E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo), no other playable title on display generated as much consistent positive buzz from the media than Jet Grind Radio. The game has already won multiple "Best of..." awards and looks to be a major flagship title for Sega's Dreamcast system this crucial upcoming holiday season. The fact that the title has been plugged so well on the tradeshow circuit is even more amazing when you consider the title is outperforming many, if not all, of PlayStation 2's first-generation releases. Call it a testament to strong old-school gameplay mechanics over flashy visuals.
Yet Jet Grind Radio is not without controversy. With elements of promoting vandalism and anti-police "rage against the machine" attitudes, the game was bound to irk a variety of conservative groups here in the United States. Thus far, only the Keep America Beautiful organization has been reported to be in contact with Sega over the issue. It's almost a guarantee that before and after Jet Grind Radio's scheduled release date in the Fall, there's bound to be a few more complaints in this climate where videogames have come under heavy scrutiny from the government and mainstream press. But gamers can rest assured because Sega has been reportedly adamant about keeping the edgy content and hopes to port the game over largely unaltered.
Details about the gameplay and other features will be presented in multiple screenshots with accompanying captions in the following pages.
