The cast in Final Fantasy X seems to be more of the usual band of unlikely followers thrown together by fate. The main antagonist, the fashion-challenged hero, Tidus (pictured here), looks to be a break from the brooding, melodramatic anti-hero characters that Squaresoft has fallen in love with since Final Fantasy VII launched. According to Squaresoft, Tidus will break the mold by being much louder and more outgoing character than we are used to—very similar to Zell of Final Fantasy VIII or Zidane of Final Fantasy IX. In true RPG fashion, Tidus' homeland is destroyed (the reasons for its destruction are not clear), but Tidus miraculously survives and awakens in the middle of the rubble. The only other thing we know about Tidus is that he is a Blitzball player—Blitzball being a popular full-contact sport not unlike basketball and soccer with a little bit of rugby sprinkled in.
