I see too much potential in the DK Bongos to brand them a publicity stunt just yet. Hopefully Nintendo does, too.

Game Description: Donkey Konga is a fun music-based game for a unique kind of gameing experience. Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong came across a pair of weird barrels on a deserted beach. They take them to Cranky Kong for an explanation and discover that the barrels are really a legendary musical instrument that plays music when you drum or clap. Now they'll try to become famous musicians and earn fame, fortune and lots of bananas!

The tough question to answer is whether these ported titles are a "good" or "bad" thing. Pretty much all of these titles are still good games in the sense that what made them enjoyable at first remains enjoyable at a later date. But does the production of these games preclude production of new games and the possibility of creating new paradigms in games based in 2-dimensional graphics?

Game Description: Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is a retelling of the venerable series' first game with a quest for up to four players—all on one cartridge. The game is a mix of action and puzzles where Link must travel between the Light and Dark worlds to rescue Princess Zelda. In the multiplayer game, Four Swords, between two to four players take on the roles of young adventurers who answer a challenge from the Triforce. They must brave the dangers of multiple dungeons in a quest to find the Master Sword. Their strength will be tested by fierce monsters, their wisdom tested by complex puzzles, and their courage tested by having to cooperate with each other to overcome obstacles.

Beyond this mocking, intentionally cheap and campy experience is a concise (though admittedly incomplete) cross-section of some of both the classic and the forgotten moments in Nintendo's videogame history, and a throwback to those beloved twitch-games of yore.

In WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$, Wario gets a chance to have a game all to himself. The conceit is that Wario has decided to make money in the videogame industry. Being lazy, he co-opts his friends into creating games for him. It's never made certain whether the player is supposed to be a tester or a consumer of the end result, but the end result is one of the most unique experiences in videogames.

Game Description: Taking the art of video game design to a new level, Nintendo's WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ gives gamers a hilarious look at what really goes on behind the scenes. You can't really say that Wario is greedy. He's just, uh, financially motivated. Always on the lookout for his next get-rich-quick scheme, Wario stumbles upon the lucrative video game publishing market. Like any aspiring entrepreneur, Wario buys a PC and starts his own company, called WarioWare, Inc. With the help of his friends, he develops over 200 of the wildest games the world has never seen.
