Rather than a game that relied completely on its brand name, I found a colorful role-playing game (RPG) that stepped up to the challenge of providing a unique experience compelling enough to keep me in front of the controller to the end of the story, despite some smudges around the edge.

It's no surprise, then, that the strangest game in years is now a franchise. The Katamari craze now cuts across multiple platforms, and its PlayStation 2 sequel has a heftier price tag than the first one did. Does We Love Katamari recreate everything we loved about the original? Yes—and no.

Boxing is often called the "sweet science." The strategy, execution and skill make up the "science" and I'm assuming the thrill and satisfaction of victory is what makes it "sweet." In Soul Calibur III, I feel there's very little "science" that goes into the combat and consequently, victory isn't particularly "sweet."

The 2.5D beat-'em-up was one of the most beloved genres of the late 80s and early 90s. It may seem amazing today, but there was a time where allowing players to move up and down on the screen as well as left and right was something of a revelation. From Renegade and Double Dragon through Night Slashers all the way up to the Dungeons and Dragons games Capcom made in the mid-90s, arcade audiences could not get enough of games about tough guys beating up hordes of similar-looking opponents.
