The Portable Project 12 – M.A.C.H.: Modified Air Combat Heroes

M.A.C.H. is one of those unfortunate games that sport impressive production values, smart design and a good difficulty curve without ever getting any traction at retail. Heck, I don't even know another PSP owner who's considered playing it, let alone brought it home from a shop. It's too bad really, because past the generic-looking box art and incredibly dull title, there's a pretty sweet experience to be had.

With insane speed, spectacular goals with loads of after-touch, gripping gameplay and a zoomed out camera for the best view of the pitch it's all in the return of Sensible Soccer.

And on top of everything loved by millions comes new features, including replays with typical Sensible Soccer humour that feature caricatured players with the biggest heads you've ever seen in football!

For a good few hours in single-player, and more generally in short multiplayer bursts, the game is entertaining and addictive, but I'm afraid it needed to be damn near perfect to fully justify its simplicity, live up to its heritage and make a lasting dent on the market.

It's not entirely fair to review a game and compare it with the things that came after it, but let's face it, anyone who reads this and gives Warhammer a shot is inevitably going to be playing it in the wake of the big three FPS games. Life is cruel, and no one ever said it was fair.
