I remember when Resident Evil was a good game. Believe it or not, it wasn't always the industry leader in beating dead horses. In fact, at its debut back in 1996 it was an amazing experience. With all due respect to Alone In The Dark, Capcom's original frightfest is what made the horror genre such a raging success, and rightfully so.

Game Description: Something terrible is seeping into the once pristine mountain air. The residents of Raccoon City go about their lives unaware of the dark fate that surrounds them. Sent in to investigate a series of grisly murders in the area, S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team scrambles into action. On the way to the scene, Bravo’s helicopter crashes. Although everyone survives, what they discover next is a gruesome site. An overturned military transport truck, riddled with corpses. Rookie member Rebecca Chambers is beginning to wonder what she got herself into. Bravo Team is about to discover the evil nightmare that is growing all around them.

Nostalgia isn't something that you can feel unless enough time passes, and now that I am a bit older, I can feel nostalgia creeping up on me. It seems that others are aware of the creeping as well, because lately, I can't help but find all sorts artifacts from my childhood suddenly showing up for sale. Transformers are back; He-Man is back; and even Scooby Doo is back. With regards to Scooby, I actually had a terrible suspicion that it would be a bad movie even before watching. However, for the sake of nostalgia, I was willing to give it a chance. Sadly, not only were my suspicions confirmed, I was also denied a trip down memory lane. The main characters resembled more like caricatures out of popular teen movies instead of what I remembered from the original cartoon. I understand that an update of sorts might be necessary, but by changing the characters, the essence of the original cartoon was lost, along with any nostalgia I might have felt for it.

I was looking forward to this particular title for two reasons: it would be exciting to see my favorite SNK characters rendered with more powerful hardware and, seeing as SNK has filed for bankruptcy, Capcom Versus SNK could be the last game featuring SNK characters. As an SNK nut, I needed to get this game.

From Mary Shelly's Frankenstein to Spielberg's AI, the notion of an artificial being, created in the likeness of a human, is a subject that continues to captivate fans of science fiction. Ironically, despite the interest, characters like Frankenstein and David are often tragic; their lives made miserable by the fear and suspicion of real people. Such responses arent always justified, but thats how people would probably react when faced by such beings.
