Probably

Been planning on getting one for a while-this just makes it easier.

Was the 360 price drop necessary?

Was the 360 price drop really necessary?

Looking at the numbers here, most gamers aren't going to buy a 360 at that new price and many because they already have one. It isn't like Microsoft needs to do so to take the lead among hardcore gamers, it has it secured and propably has it locked down past this Christmas.

Sony on the other hand had to do something to keep from being embarrassed by the 360 and the Wii.

The PS3 is only about 4

The PS3 is only about 4 million units behind the 360 and most of the sales of the 360 have been in North America. Outside of that region the PS3 is outselling it in Japan and very close in Europe.

The last thing MS wants to see from Sony, is the PS3 gaining momentum heading into this holiday season. Especially with the PS3 having more exclusives ready for the fall rush.
