Borderlands
Did anyone take the plunge? I've had my eye on this one for a little while and figured it would be a decent break from my Demon's Souls sessions. The developers said they wanted to combine Mad Max with Diablo, which sounds amazing to me. It looks like they took Fallout 3 and shifted it more towards the FPS end of the spectrum rather than tilting it towards RPG.
I hear its so-so as a single player game, but phenomenal as a multiplayer game; so if/when I buy it, feel free to add me to your PSN friends list: FidgetyAcolyte .
Anyone else gonna be picking this up (hopefully for PS3 so I can have a buddy or two to play with)?

Re: Borderlands
I should be getting a PS3 copy any day now... will definitely be looking for some co-op action to inform the review.

Re: Borderlands
I seen some of the first part of the game being played when I was at my buddies house yesterday.
Take the look and combat of Fallout 3, cell shade it like Valkyria chronicles, and throw in the missions and campaign style of a MMORPG like WOW and you have borderlands.
they even have an arena near one of the first 2 cities to battle with you friends WOW style, except, you know, with guns and stuff.
I really like the idea, but I was never into the whole MMO type games so I will prob give it a pass.

Re: Borderlands
I have two free rentals at Blockbuster. I'll go rent it after you buy it. I would buy it, but my funds are kind of tight.

Re: Borderlands
I bought it and I must say I am surprised at how FPS-ish it feels.
I mean, I knew it was FPS/RPG with an FPS slant, but I'm glad to see that it actually feels like an FPS and not a dice-rolling RPG coated in FPS paint. They weren't kidding about guns either. I played for a couple of hours and already had to make some tough decisions on what guns I wanted to drop, sell, and keep.
Do not be put off by some of the gameplay videos you see where the enemies are just bullet sponges. If you're fighting appropriate leveled enemies then it takes a reasonable amount to down the enemies.
As for the multiplayer, I haven't even touched it yet. I wanted to get acclimated to the game before going into co-op so as to relieve any possible burden I place on a party.
Anyone who wants to play with me, just add me on PSN and we'll get down. All of the reviews say the co-op is where it really shines.

Re: Borderlands
Put a few hours into it tonight and leveled up to 7 or 8, i think. I'm the soldier Roland... using mostly an incendiary pistol and a powerful assault rifle with a way-too-small clip.
Can't say i'm loving it too much... feels very empty and artificial, perhaps not my cup of tea. i would definitely like to do some PS3 co-op this weekend, though.
Want to set up a time, FA? Anybody else?

Most reviews say that Boderlands is a much better as a co-op game.
I will swing by Blockbuster to see if they have a copy.

Re: Borderlands
So you can only play as the four premade characters after all? I remember hearing a lot about character customization and all that back in the day, before they switched to the cel-shaded look.

Re: Borderlands
yeah, only four presets with VERY SMALL skill trees. it's totally boring to have a character with only one special pre-selected power. no customization to the guns, either. ZZZZZZZ....

Re: Borderlands
I rented it today. The people in front of me got the last PS3 copy, so I rented it on the 360. I have been so busy with work that I haven't had a chance to play it.

Re: Borderlands
I spent a hour and a half with Borderlands and I can't say that I am that impressed. I am kind of bored actually. So bored that I don't know if I want to continue playing.
I can't stand traveling over the same boring landscape, fighting the same boring dog-like creatures over and over again.
Half hour into the game I am still getting missions like "go buy grenades" or "go talk to this person". I hate how you have to check in after completing a mission.

Re: Borderlands
IGN named Borderlands Game of the Month for 360 and PC.
It seams that the players love it too. They have nothing but good things to say about it in the comment section.
I must have played the wrong Borderlands.

The game is a lot more fun playing co-op than it is solo.
