It's an honest question.
Penny Arcade expressed joy over Lorre Lanning, for instance, getting into film. It just seemed a more
natural medium for his style of storytelling.
I admit, I can think of three off the top of my head who I'd like to see shift, too.
- David Cage: Absolute top of my list, David Cage needs to get into film, pronto. His games are always a furious attempt to try and imitate film as much as can be done, so why, why remain working in games? Just shift over to making films, and be done with it. I would be happy to explain to David Cage that a film can work like a film much better than any game can.
- Tim Schafer: Into comics. Seriously, his work has always seemed like it would suit the graphic novel a lot better than a game. Think about it: Psychonauts? Everyone praised the writing, but the gameplay was up and down. Brutal Legend? Again, praise the writing (I didn't, I thought the writing sucked on it, but I'm in a minority there) but pan the gameplay. It's clear that Tim is interested in innovation and genuinely loves games, but I wish he'd realise it's just not his natural medium. The graphic novel is.
- Hideo Kojima: Into... something, I have no idea what. Novels? I can't imagine what a Kojima novel would be like. Comics again? Maybe, but he's way too wordy for it. Film? Probably not. Novels seem the best bet. His work is, I'll give him credit, unique. Still, I'd like to see a Kojima novel, where he can be as wordy as he wants.
What about others on the boards? Anyone else have any opinions?
