Re: Manga!
@shun Yeah, the great thing about the live-action movies is that they cut out both of those arcs, the last third with Near and the middle part with the company. As a result it is a much better-paced story than the manga. And (movie ending spoiler) L triumphs over Light in the end so that makes me happy! XD
The funny thing about Hellsing, what I've heard from fans is apparently the original anime series was nothing like (and crappier than) the manga, and for that reason they made Hellsing Ultimate, which is apparently much truer to the manga (and therefore not crappy). I saw the first episode of Ultimate at Otakon and it was pretty good, which is why I picked up the book.

Did they ever finish the English editions?

Yup! I have all of them except volume 5 (I am terrible at remembering which books I already own, ha). I've been having to get them online or at like Midtown Comics when I'm in NYC though. Kind of hard to come by.

What's scary is how Last Order was suppose to the the "real" ending to Battle Angel/Gunmu and now Last Order is longer than the original series! I see this as a disturbing trend and I think it probably has to do with the poor global economy and not wanting to take risks on new IPs which is one of the great things about manga and anime to begin with. It really kills me when I get the feeling the creator has no idea where he or she wants to go with the story (such is the case with super brillant and disturbing Berserk).

I liked Black Jack a great deal. The stories made me smile with their ironic twists. I also liked them because they were more like short stories. You didn't have to worry about very long plot devices. When I read some of the longer form stories/books, I occasionally felt "lost in translation."

You're not reading the right stories my friend. Gon, the little dinosaur who could, has zero text.

Man Midtown comics is great! Its one of the reasons why I started reading comics again. I was shocked at the level of customer service which to me was unheard of when it came to comic book stores.

It is an awesome little store! They have a pretty great manga selection as well. Last time I was there one of the clerks was giving a guy an art critique, it was cool.
(Woohoo, quotes!)

Yes, I read Chinese, and I prefer reading manga in Chinese because it reads better in that language than in English (maybe because of Japanese being close to Chinese, so not much is lost in the translation). If you understand both languages, you'd notices a huge difference in the quality of texts in GTO: the Chinese ones are great; English, clunky at best.
Most of the manwah I read are those that get published in newspapers, and a few of those Tsai Chih Chung's illustrated story about Confucius, Lao Tze, Zhuang Zhi, etc. I haven't read any wuxia (i.e. martial arts) stuff though. Would've loved to check some out. Any recommendations? Are there any good manwah of Jin Yung's novels?
