I wrote the headline to this story not really thinking—and only now does it dawn on me that "gets a street date" make it sound like Silent Hill: Shattered Memories went out and picked up a hooker…
That's not what happened, though. Instead, Konami has announced the release date for the title (or, the date the game will "hit the streets"). Wii owners can experience an updated version of one of Survival Horror's most revered titles on December 8th. PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable owners will have to wait longer as no date has been set for either of those platforms.
Early demos for the game have been impressive and I'm excited to check out the Wii version of the game—if for no other reason than because it will actually give me an excuse to turn on my Wii…
Jump past the break for a character breakdown from Konami's press release.
First up, news from Electronic Arts (courtesy of Kotaku) concerning the release date for the game's official demo. PS3 and XBox 360 owners will be able to try out the first level of the title sometime next month. EA hasn't been more specific than that but you can at least sleep easy tonight knowing that you'll be guiding Dante through Hades sooner rather than later.
If that wasn't enough to satiate your need for all things Inferno, here's another developer diary on the game. This newest segment covers level six, better known as "Heresy". This new level finds Dante going deeper into Hell–and it's the first area in the game that really portrays a fire-and-brimstone Hell that many of us recognize from the Bible. One of the producers mentions that by this stage, we're "in Satan's backyard".
Dante's Inferno continues to impress me with each new diary they reveal (which means EA's marketing plan is working). We'll all get a chance to experience the finished product when it hits retailers everywhere on February 9th of next year.
With the release of Left 4 Dead 2 just around the corner (it streets on November 17th for the PC and Xbox 360) expect to start hearing more about the game. Gamestop teamed up with Valve to create this new teaser commercial for the cooperative zombie-slaying game, which highlights not only a bit of what players can expect in the follow up to the wildly popular original, but to also convince players to pre-order their copy through Gamestop so they can procure the in-game American Baseball Bat weapon. Ah marketing…is there anything you won’t do?
I guess this means I need to get my red-ringed Xbox 360 fixed posthaste…
Lots of game news here at the site this morning—which is cool, because I love gaming almost as much as I love horror.
TGC—The Games Company, a Berlin-based publisher, has announced I’m Not Alone for the PC (see? PC gaming's not dead!). The survival horror experience is set to hit retailers in the first quarter of 2010. What can adventurous gamers who grab this title expect? Skip past the break for a full gallery and more on the game.
You'll have to forgive me for the unimaginative headline on this post. There are only so many inventive ways to title a story on zombies and I think after covering the undead for over a decade I've run out of cool ones.
Konami's Zombie Apocalypse is now available for download and was the most downloaded title on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade. You'd think that would be good enough for Konami, but it's not. They think there are still some of you out there who haven't splurged for a copy of the game and indulged in its Smash TV-esque wholesale zombie genocide. To entice you to pay your money and take the ride, they've released a new trailer for the game–one that basks in the gory glory of the experience of taking out hordes of flesh eating monsters in satisfyingly violent ways.
Can you survive the zombie apocalypse for 55 days, spread over seven different environments? It'll cost you $9.99 or 800 Microsoft Points to find out.
Ever wondered what it would be like to whole up in a building you'd converted to a fully functioning fortress during the zombie apocalypse? Well, wonder no more because Paradox Interactive's forthcoming Fort Zombie is set to let you live the dream.
In Fort Zombie, players must save the town of Piety, Indiana from an impending wave of zombies migrating from a nearby major city. Players are challenged to take control of a single building throughout the entire campaign. By effectively building this structure into the ultimate fort, as well as carefully searching for supplies and finding and training survivors in Piety, players have a chance at conquering and outlasting the flesh-hungry zombies.
The game reportedly blends zombie-killing mayhem with casual RPG elements and will be available for PC download later this fall—for an insanely cheap $9.99 price point. Just to set the tone, here's a look at the game's introductory cinematic. Yes, the graphics aren't exactly cutting edge, but the gameplay may well make up for the visual shortcomings.
I haven't posted anything about Sega's upcoming Alien vs. Predator game in awhile, but that changes today. Here's the latest trailer for the title, this one featuring a distinctively Alien perspective. The trailer looks good–now let's all cross our fingers and hope the finished game not only features decent graphics, but is actually fun to play as well.
Electronic Arts' been cool enough to share another new Developer Diary for their forthcoming action game Dante's Inferno. This one is entitled "Anger", and as you might have guessed, it's all about how Dante will bring the pain to Hell's minions.
I'll let the clip speak for itself, but the crew behind the game spends roughly five minutes talking about Dante's Death Scythe melee weapon, how they came to choose it over a more traditional sword, and the benefits of the Cross magic combat system. Interspersed with that is a lot of gameplay footage to whet your appetite.
Things seem to be moving along quickly on the newest Resident Evil film (this one's subtitled Afterlife). We've gotten a lot of casting announcements over the past few weeks, and now Sony Screen Gems brings us a few more–as well as the official synopsis for the Paul WS Anderson film.
First, the casting. We already knew Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter were returning (and being joined by Wentworth Miller and Boris Kodjoe, amongst others), but now you can add Norman Yeung and Kacey Barnfield to the list if you're keeping score at home.
If you're tired of shooting zombies in the head and dismembering them with various gardening implements, then perhaps Exor Studios' newest PC title will re-ignite your love of annihilating the undead. The indie Polish developer is hard at work on their first commercial PC release, a game called Zombie Driver. While the title is slightly misleading (the zombies aren't driving), it does promise a great deal of vehicular undead-slaughter. I think that's something we can all get behind.
